Context

Worldwide, there is a disparity in access to education, with the marginalized children in rural areas often falling through the cracks and falling victim to poor access to education. This is due to poverty, inadequate infrastructure and teaching material resources, and cultural constraints. Furthermore, the traditional education system does not meet the needs of the students which further exacerbates the worsening education situation through high dropout rates and poor learning outcomes. The Caritas Switzerland’s Essence of Learning (EoL) program aims to provide a holistic and inclusive educational experience that is flexible and relevant to the local context.

Solution

The Essence of Learning (EoL) program by Caritas Switzerland adopts a learner-centered approach that places emphasis on fostering essential life skills and emotional well-being alongside academic learning. A crucial component of this approach is the active involvement of local communities and parents, who are engaged to support children's education and create a nurturing learning environment at home.
