Proud to Be a Teacher (PtBT) programme

Created On November 25, 2023 Last Modified On April 28, 2024

Context and Issues

Public schools in Jordan have showcased extremely low learning outcomes compared to other places. There are vast differences between boys and girls, locals and foreigners, rich and poor. Schools face problems such as violence, students not attending classes, teachers being overworked, and overcrowded classes. These conditions further deteriorated due to the influx of Syrian Refugees. In this background, there was a need for capacity building of human resources in an organic manner that could support improved quality of teaching.

Solution

PtBT complements Masahati Student Clubs MSC by supporting teacher development, and the program aims to improve the school climate, providing benefits beyond those directly to participants and catalyzing wider system change to improve the quality and inclusivity of teaching, reduce dropout rates, and improve learning outcomes and social cohesion in schools.

Impact

In collaboration with PtBT, the MSC provides a top-notch extracurricular education program centered on social and emotional learning (SEL) and improving the school atmosphere. This initiative aims to meet the educational requirements of disadvantaged children and tackle the challenges present in Jordanian schools' learning environments.

The quality of teaching resources will impact the implementation of such solutions.
